METRONET & LOCAL JOBS

  • Building the next generation of WA railcars locally for METRONET
  • Froze TAFE fees and reduced fees by 50% for 34 high priority courses
  • Delivered the WA Jobs Law to mandate State Government projects create local jobs
  • Established the WA Industry Link online portal and advisory services to help WA businesses tender for Government contracts
  • Established the Local Capability Fund for local small businesses to increase their competitiveness in procurement
  • Introduced a new wave of liquor reforms to cut red tape for small businesses and grow the hospitality and tourism sectors
  • Established a $16.4 million New Industries Fund to support and accelerate new and emerging businesses
  • $200m school maintenance blitz
  • $229.2 million for rebuilding our TAFEs program - including upgrades to campuses, expanding lower fees, and providing free short TAFE courses

 

INVESTING IN LOCAL SCHOOLS

  • Converting classrooms into science labs at 200 primary schools and providing them with equipment and resources
  • Published a STEM skills strategy to improve STEM education, with funding to start delivery and train teachers
  • Hired an additional 120 teachers in public schools to oversee the delivery of mental health programs and to support regional Year 11 and 12 students
  • Froze TAFE fees for four years
  • Established a new training program at South Metropolitan TAFE, in partnership with Rio Tinto, to prepare workers for industry advancements, innovation and automation

 

COMMUNITY SAFETY

  • Providing the WA Police Force with $73.4 million to immediately recruit an extra 150 police officers
  • Delivering our Meth Action Plan including road-side drug testing, with a focus on the three pillars of prevention, protection and prosecution
  • Providing an extra $5million for Operation Heat Shield - boosting police presence
  • Introduced ‘No Body, No Parole’ laws, outlawed ‘revenge porn’ and increased the penalties for dangerous drivers who kill others
  • Invested in two new women’s refuges, expanded existing counselling and support services throughout WA and funded a residential program to help perpetrators change their behaviour
  • Introduced laws for mandatory reporting for religious ministers and priests where there is suspected child sexual abuse
  • Dangerous sex offender’s legislation

 

SUPPORTING THE COMMUNITY

  • Introduction of legislation to stop puppy farming
  • Extended the loan book on the Labor Government initiative, Keystart, to help improve housing affordability, and create jobs
  • Launched the Affordable Housing Action Plan to deliver an additional 7,700 homes and almost 6,000 jobs
  • $7.4 million in free financial counselling services for Western Australians struggling to pay their bills
  • Invested $20 million for Aboriginal In-home Support services to provide early intervention for Aboriginal families and help divert them away from the care system
  • Joined the National Disability Insurance Scheme
  • Allocated $401.6 million for water concessions for pensioners and seniors
  • Funded hundreds of local sport and recreation projects so that more people have access to modern and upgraded sporting facilities in their communities
  • Joined the National Redress Scheme for victims of child sexual abuse
  • $28 million funding to address family and domestic violence in WA
  • $6.8 million to homelessness support services across WA

 

THE ENVIRONMENT

  • Banned single use plastic bags
  • Container deposit scheme in WA – reducing waste and rubbish
  • Stopped the flawed Roe 8 Perth Freight Link project upon coming to Government and introduced legislation to Parliament to protect the Beeliar Wetlands permanently
  • Announced a bold vision to expand our conservation estate by five million hectares over five years, a 20 per cent increase, managed in collaboration with traditional owners
  • Prohibiting fracking in 98 per cent of Western Australia and no fracking production will be permitted without the consent of Traditional Owners and farmers
  • $60.3 million for WA's new Green Jobs Plan - creating more than 1,000 conservation jobs across the State
  • $66.3 million funding for renewable energy projects across the state

 

PUTTING PATIENTS FIRST

  • Delivered Urgent Care Clinics at Belmont City Medical Centre, Ridge Ascot Medical Centre and Waterhall Medical Centre
  • Making Voluntary Assisted Dying law in Western Australia.
  • Starting the process of building a new women’s and maternity hospital
  • WA Future Health Research and Innovation Fund introduced 
  • Delivered 77 new beds to treat people with drug and alcohol dependency across the State
